Why do people celebrate Christmas in July? When you stop to think about the best part of the holiday season, then I think it's a great idea to celebrate it twice a year instead of just once. During the holidays, we gather with family and friends to share good food, good conversation, memories, and gifts. Christmas in July provides a perfect opportunity to enjoy a warm weather yuletide celebration, and to enjoy the spirit of the holiday season more than once a year. There may be many other reasons, actually eight by my count, why people take part in the festivities.

#1 Some people like to get an early start on their holiday shopping - a really early start. As stores and online sites try to become part of the celebration, there are often sales and special events to take advantage of.

#2 It's winter somewhere. In the southern hemisphere, winter happens in July. So it gives people in that half of the world an opportunity to experience Christmas in the cold weather, hopefully with snow included, rather than in the heat of their more typical Christmas.

#3 And the flip side of that - it gives the rest of us a great excuse to party in the warm weather. What's more festive than Christmas decorations and Santa hats around the pool? Add a little Reggae Christmas music and now you have a party!

#4 Presents! I think this needs no further explanation. Who doesn't like presents?

#5 Charitable giving. It can provide so many worthwhile charities an opportunity to plan special events with a fun theme to encourage people to be generous. By taking advantage of the good spirits people may be in, charities are able to expand the reach of their cause.

#6 Any excuse to have a party!

#7 And if you want to celebrate Christmas in July without having to plan your own party, a quick internet search will result in many local celebrations - from craft fairs, flea markets, farm markets, charity fundraisers, to some large entertainment venues or amusement parks. Google is your friend - give it a try...

#8 Christmas Movies! Since Hallmark has joined in the Christmas in July festivities by showing more than 2 weeks of Christmas Movies, this just brings the celebrations into the mainstream. Now we don't have to worry about our friends making fun of us for watching Christmas movies during the summer. Turn the air conditioner down really cold, and heat up the hot chocolate!
