For many people the mention of Christmas Movies on TV and the Countdown to Christmas, their thoughts automatically jump to Hallmark. Hallmark may currently be the biggest player in this arena, but other networks are making their mark.

Great American Family, a relative newcomer to this annual tradition, is quickly making up for lost time. As a longtime fan of the yearly flood of Christmas movies, I more than welcome the competition!

And we can't forget a few other networks that also take part in this tradition - most notably Lifetime and UP TV.

Both Hallmark and Great American Family have finally released the details on their plans for this Christmas.

Hallmark will again have a total of 41 new movies between their two main TV channels - 32 on the regular Hallmark channel, and 9 on Hallmark Mystery. And Hallmark will begin their Countdown to Christmas on Friday, October 18.

GAC Family has announced 16 new movies so far, with the 24/7 scheduling to begin on Friday, October 11.

Lifetime is planning 12 new movies for this year, with the event to begin on Saturday, November 16.

And last but not least, Up TV is rounding out the festivities with 4 new movies, with the first premiere scheduled for Sunday, November 24.
